Q. Is the TD3500 available with different interfaces?
A. The TD3500 is available with ATA, SATA, or USB 2.0 interfaces. We are always evaluating market requirements to determine which additional interfaces should be included in our product plans. Contact Formation if you have an interest in a different interface.

Q. What is the standard lead time?
A. The standard lead time for the TD3500 is 1 to 2 weeks after placement of order. The actual lead time will vary depending upon quantity ordered, order flow and inventory level at the time of order placement. Contact Formation for lead times for all other products or if you have any special delivery needs.

Q. Does the TD3500 contain a standard disk drive inside its package?
A. Yes, the TD3500 consists of best of breed commercial media wrapped in a shield using Formation’s technology and experience. Formation’s more than three decades of media testing reveals that the best media varies with each media generation. Consult the Users Manual for the current selection of commercial media used inside the TD3500.

Q. Is the form factor for the TD3500 the same as any standard 3.5” disk drive?
A. Yes, the TD3500 is designed to be a rugged drop-in replacement for standard 3.5” disk drives.

Q. Is the TD3500 connector in the same location as the connector on standard 3.5” disk drives?
A. The SATA connector location is per SFF Committee SFF-8323 and the SATA specification. The ATA standard does not specify connector location. The location of the connector on the TD3500-ATA is a little higher than on many ATA drives but this should not be an issue since ATA drive connectors are designed for use with ribbon cables (not blind mate). Contact Formation if you have difficulty mounting our disk drives.

Q. Is a warm-up time required, in extremely cold environments, for the TD3500 to be operational?
A. Yes, a warm-up time is required if the ambient temperature is below 0oC. The length of time required depends upon the ambient temperature and amount of airflow. Consult the Users Manual for additional information.

Q. Does the TD3500 meet RTCA DO-160D standards?
A. The TD3500 meets some DO-160D standards. The standards vary depending upon the category assigned to the disk drive. Each type of test (temperature, vibration, shock …) is assigned to a category depending on the application and environment. Consult the Users Manual for TD3500 specifications. Contact Formation for additional information or to discuss your particular requirement.

Q. Is status information available concerning the operation of the disk drive?
A. Yes, the TD3500 is fitted with an auxiliary connector. This connector offers additional features that advanced users may optionally choose to access. Information such as diagnostic test status and environmental state is available through the I2C bus. Consult the Users Manual for additional information.

Q. What is the standard warranty?
A. The standard warranty is one-year parts and labor. In the unlikely instance of a product failure, contact Formation to get a RA number and return instructions.
