FORMATION’S ADVANCED INTEGRATED RECORDER (AIR) SELECTED FOR COPENHAGEN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTER Networked system architecture to provide distributed record, control and replay functions MOORESTOWN, NJ, USA (February 24, 2004)… Formation, Inc. announced today that it has signed a definitive contract with Naviair, the Air Navigation Services of Denmark, to deliver Advanced Integrated Recorder (AIR) systems to the Copenhagen Air Traffic Control Center in Kastrup, Denmark, and other Naviair sites in Denmark and Greenland. The control centers will use AIR to record from 37 to 565 analog and digital voice channels (expandable to over 660 channels) for area control, approach and tower voice communications. "Our Legal Voice Recorder requirements call for systems networked among multiple sites, with distributed control points and remote replay stations, all with no single point of failure," commented Naviair Deputy Director Systems, Mr. Flemming Tidselholdt. "After evaluating the many record and replay devices available, we selected Formation’s AIR product because it met our requirements at the best price." "Naviair’s implementation makes excellent use of networked AIR servers to create a cost-effective, ‘hands-off’ recording system. Record, replay and control functions can all be accomplished from geographically separated locations, allowing the most flexible collection, protection and use of critical ATC information. The system also utilizes modern off-the-shelf equipment with up to 1.5 Terabytes of online disk storage per server, making daily tape or DVD changes unnecessary," said R. Nim Evatt, Formation CEO. "We believe the final result is one of the most advanced ATC voice recording architectures in the world." The AIR system is used in ATC, air defense and command & control centers worldwide, recording, storing and replaying workstation screen activity, radar, LAN and voice data in a single time-tagged, and synchronized system. The system is scaleable, expandable and provides any size facility the ability to recreate critical events, eliminate manual data correlation, and reduce liability risk. Configurations range from a stand-alone 1U (1.75 inch) server with as few as 12 voice channels, to a networked storage system supporting over 1000 screen, data and voice channels.
